One-hundred-twenty-two souls,
strangers in a can tossed high into the sky
by the jet-fueled hand of gods;
for now, time stands still
while we long for Vulcan’s brief appearance
at the end of our long trajectory;
the heated embrace of rubber and concrete,
so far below and away.
